Agartala, 3rd May 2025:  A land dispute in the Sitar Dun area of Ward No. 6, Tel Kajla Gram Panchayat under Melaghar Police Station has resulted in police intervention with allegations and counterclaims filed by both parties.

Sources informed, 72-year-old Farid Mia had lived in a mud house on a hillock near Holi Bibi’s residence for years. However, after his son, who works abroad, purchased land on the plains and built a new house, Farid Mia moved there, leaving his former dwelling abandoned.

With the land now vacant, Holi Bibi reportedly began claiming ownership of the area. Last Tuesday, when Farid Mia attempted to cut mango trees left on his former plot for firewood, Holi Bibi allegedly stopped him, asserting her ownership. “This place belongs to me,” she reportedly told Mia, leading to a heated exchange.

Later that afternoon, Mia’s daughter-in-law, Khusnehera Begum, visited the hill to confront Holi Bibi about the cultivation on the land. A verbal altercation ensued, allegedly escalating when Holi Bibi, her son Phul Mia, and other family members confronted Khusnehera Begum.

According to Khusnehera Begum, Phul Mia attacked her and attempted to violate her modesty, prompting her to file a complaint at Melaghar Police Station. “I was harassed, and I had to seek justice,” she stated. In response, authorities took Phul Mia into custody for questioning.

Meanwhile, Phul Mia maintains that the allegations against him are fabricated, asserting that the dispute stemmed from the land issue. “She filed a rape case against me over a land dispute,” he claimed in front of the media.

On the other hand, Khusnehera Begum refuted Phul Mia’s claim. “I never filed a rape case—only a complaint of harassment and attempted violation,” she clarified.

With cases now filed from both sides, the police are conducting an investigation. Authorities are expected to thoroughly examine the matter to uncover the truth behind the conflicting allegations. “We hope that a proper investigation will reveal what really transpired,” a local resident commented.
