Agartala, 1st November 2025: . Five more persons have been arrested for their alleged involvement in the recent Santirbazar violence under Dhalai district in which ten people including three government officials were injured, a senior police official said today.
Police sources informed that the arrested individuals have been identified as Jaba Debbarma, Soumen Debbarma, Goutam Debbarma, Narayan Das and Dipak Datta. They were produced before a local court after being taken into custody last night.
Earlier, two accused Riyaj Debbarma and Ratnadwip Rudrapal were arrested on October 25 in connection with the same case and are currently in judicial custody.
A BJP delegation led by Animal Resource Development (ARD) Minister Sudhangshu Das visited Santirbazar yesterday to assess the ground situation. Terming the incident “unfortunate and unexpected,” Das condemned the violence and appealed for harmony among communities.
“We have come here to understand what actually happened. The damage to people and their property is deeply saddening. There is no place for violence in our society — we always stand for peace,” he said.
Das further warned against attempts to create tension between tribal and non-tribal communities, calling such efforts “condemnable.” He added that interim relief has been provided to the affected families and that a full report would be submitted to the Chief Minister after a detailed assessment.
The violence erupted on October 23 during a statewide bandh called by the Tripura Civil Society (TCS) in support of an eight-point charter of demands, including the immediate implementation of the Tiprasa Accord.
The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), an ally in the BJP-led state government, had signed the accord with the Centre and the state government in February last year to address issues concerning the state’s indigenous communities.
