Agartala, 5th October 2025 :   The Supreme Court has postponed the listing of Tipra Motha’s petition regarding the conduct of Village Council (VC) elections in Tripura’s Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). A new date for the hearing is expected to be announced on Monday.

Reacting to the delay, Tipra Motha founder and royal scion Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma expressed disappointment, saying the state’s indigenous communities have long faced systemic neglect and control.

“The Hon’ble Supreme Court has delayed the listing of the VC hearing. We will get a fresh date tomorrow. The indigenous people have suffered and continue to suffer because some people want to control our fate through power, money, and the system. Let’s not forget that frustration is growing among the youth and Gen Z,” Pradyot said in a post on social media.

The Tipra Motha chief’s statement comes amid renewed calls for greater autonomy and constitutional safeguards for Tripura’s indigenous population, a long-standing demand of the regional party.
