SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das commemorates Dr. BR Ambedkar’s legacy, awards merit to Scheduled Caste students

Agartala, 3rd February 2024:   SC Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das awarded the prestigious Dr. BR Ambedkar Special Merit Award, Gold Medal, and First Division recognition to Scheduled Caste students who excelled in the Secondary and Higher Secondary Examination 2023 conducted by Tripura Board of Secondary Education. Minister Das honored 715 students during the merit award ceremony, emphasizing the significance of Dr. Ambedkar’s life and his relentless efforts to eliminate prejudice and the caste system in subjugated India.

In a ceremony held at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here, Minister Das acknowledged Dr. Ambedkar’s vision of building a new India where everyone enjoys equal rights, urging the current generation to embrace his path and ideology. He stressed the ongoing importance of education, emphasizing that success in exams is a continuous process that should be sustained. Minister Das commended the state government’s initiatives to transform the education system, introducing institutions like Vidyajyoti School, PM-Shri School, and implementing the New National Education Policy across various blocks.

The Schedule Caste Welfare Department, under Minister Das’s leadership, has undertaken multifaceted projects to support the welfare of Scheduled Caste students. These initiatives include developing boarding houses, enhancing educational infrastructure, and providing scholarships for pre-matric and post-matric students. Additionally, efforts have been made to assist those interested in pursuing experimental courses such as Medical, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmacist, Agri B.Sc, and Veterinary.

Guest of honor and acting Sabhadipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad, Haridulal Acharya, highlighted the role of education as the backbone of the nation. He commended the state government’s commitment to providing education for all. BS Mishra, Principal Secretary of the Schedule Caste Welfare Department, detailed various ongoing projects aimed at uplifting Scheduled Caste communities.

The event also saw the distribution of awards, with 25,000 taka deposited into the bank accounts of the top 10 Scheduled Caste students in the 2023 secondary and higher secondary examinations. Each awardee received a gold medal, certificate, and a book. Additionally, 471 students who achieved first division were awarded 1500 rupees and a certificate, while 244 meritorious Class IX students from Sadar sub-division received 700 rupees and a certificate.

The ceremony concluded with guests paying tribute to Dr. Ambedkar by placing wreaths on his portrait. Tuton Das, Chairman of Tripura State Cooperative Consumer Federation Ltd., presided over the event, which brought together students, teachers, parents, and Asim Saha, Director of the Schedule Caste Welfare Department.
