Agartala, 7th November 2025:. A tragic accident involving a school bus took place this afternoon around 2 PM in the Madhuban Kathaltali Bypass area, leaving one pedestrian dead and eleven students injured.

The bus belonging to Montfort School was returning from school when it reportedly lost control while attempting to avoid hitting a woman crossing the road. The vehicle broke through roadside railings and crashed. The deceased, identified as Khela Sarkar, a resident of the Rail Bridge locality, was out feeding her goat as part of her daily routine when the incident took place.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud crash and rushed out of their homes to find the bus overturned and Sarkar lying on the road. Local residents quickly began rescue efforts, followed by the arrival of fire service personnel who transported the injured students to Tripura Medical College and Dr BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital. The bus bore registration number TR01-4324. The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

No pedestrians witnessed the exact moment of the accident, making it difficult to determine the precise sequence of events. Coincidentally, MP Rajib Bhattacharjee was passing through the area at the time and stopped to inquire about the situation.

Hospital sources informed that seven to eight of the injured students sustained serious injuries. Sarkar was taken to GB Hospital, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
