Agartala, February 16, 2023: Soon after a peaceful voting event held across the state, a chaos followed by scuffle erupted between BJP and Congress workers centering Swami Vivekananda Abashan at Kunjaban here since Thursday evening.
It is learned that the residents of the housing complex informed New Capital Complex police station staff suspecting a bomb lying in a drain. Police personnel reached the spot along with the bomb squad. Later it was revealed that it was a pipe bomb.
It is also reported that there have been clashes between Left-Congress and BJP workers in and around the premises of Swami Vivekananda Abashan leaving eight persons injured of both the political parties.
Sitting MLA and Congress candidate Sudip Roy Barman on Friday visited Swami Vivekananda Abashan at Kunjaban here and talked with the residents.
Speaking to media persons here, Roy Barman said “The people residing in Vivekananda Housing complex want peaceful livelihood. Some BJP-sponsored hooligans led by Liton Modak especially stage attack, threaten and physically assault people. Even he had obstructed electorates to exercise their democratic rights.”
“Yesterday, Liton along with ruling party goons physically assaulted a few people brutally. Thereafter, the residents retaliated and he locked himself inside in a room. People sustained injuries on the hand, head, etc. After that, police arrived and took him away. It is predicted that he tried to flee but sustained injury on his head and was later admitted to the hospital.”
“Now, multiple threats are being given to the people residing here. Last evening, some ‘Bike Bahini’ led by local councillor Lata Nath arrived and hurled a bomb. The bomb did not explode and was lying on the drain. People are passing their days in an anarchy”, he alleged.
He said “Liton had forcefully occupied the room of Manju Debnath. The people resident in this housing complex demanded to overthrow Liton from this place and then only peace will prevail in this area.”
Raising allegations of initiating a reign of terror in 6-Agartala assembly constituency by the heavyweight leader and MLA Sudip Roy Barman, BJP candidate Papia Datta said “As he had understood that the Congress workers and supporters had withdrawn their support from him, he had hired all notorious mafias brought up by the CPIM in 25 years long rule through cash and other means for creating a chaotic situation in this area.”
“The constituency’s electorates have already judged and considered what would be their fate. Six people are fighting for their lives at GBP Hospital. He is doing all these works in a pre-planned manner”, she added.
In the afternoon, BJP workers led by their candidate Datta and local councillor Lata Nath blocked roads at New Capital Complex area demanding immediate arrest of the culprit behind this attack.
