Agartala, 16th September 2026 : With preparations underway for the peaceful conduct of the Village Committee elections under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), the State Election Commission held two meetings to review security arrangements, law and order and the overall election process.
The first meeting was held in hybrid mode under the chairmanship of the State Election Commission and was attended by the DGP of Tripura Police, Inspector General of Police (Law and Order), District Election Officers-cum-District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police from different districts.
During the meeting, it was informed that the police authorities have taken necessary measures to maintain normal law and order across the state during the election campaign. Steps have also been taken to ensure a level playing field for all political parties and candidates and maintain a democratic atmosphere throughout the election process.
The meeting also decided that necessary assistance would be provided by sector officers and police personnel to ensure that representatives of all participating parties reach their designated polling stations on time on polling day.
As part of the security arrangements,74 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed across Tripura. Their deployment before, during and after polling is expected to further strengthen security arrangements.
Regular area domination exercises and flag marches are being conducted across districts under the supervision of District Election Officers and SPs. The State Election Commission has issued strict instructions to all District Magistrates, Collectors and SPs to ensure a peaceful environment and build confidence among voters so that they can exercise their franchise without fear or intimidation.
Necessary restrictions have also been imposed under Section 189 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. These restrictions will remain in force from 4 pm on September 26, 2026, to 6 am on September 28, 2026.
The Commission has issued detailed guidelines regarding the mandatory 48-hour silence period preceding the conclusion of polling. During this period, no election campaign or canvassing will be permitted. Election-related content that may influence voters cannot be displayed, published or broadcast through television, radio, cable networks, social media or other electronic or print media within the polling areas.
News organisations, including television channels, radio stations, digital platforms and newspapers, have also been directed to refrain from broadcasting or publishing debates, discussions, opinions, opinion polls or other content that could influence voters during the restricted period.
The Commission warned that violations of the guidelines would invite penal action under the relevant provisions of law.
It also reiterated that loudspeakers may be used only between 6 am and 10 pm. Authorities have been instructed to ensure that loudspeaker noise does not cause inconvenience to children, particularly newborns, senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
The State Election Commissioner further directed all District Election Officers to ensure minimum assured facilities at every polling station including drinking water, electricity and necessary furniture.
The second meeting was held with all election observers appointed for the Village Committee elections. The meeting discussed their roles and responsibilities in detail, with emphasis on effective monitoring of the electoral process, uniformity, transparency and strict compliance with prescribed rules and guidelines.
The observers have been appointed by the State Election Commission to monitor the conduct of elections in their respective areas and submit reports to the Commission.
