Agartala: August 01. The civil administration of the Bishalgarh sub-division has clamped section 144 CrPC at Charilam area after a face-off took place between the workers of BJP and Congress which later turn ugly.

Police sources said that the situation turned grim following a joining programme of the Congress party and of a party office that was closed for a long time. The joining was led by MLA and former minister Sudip Roy Barman, former MLA Asish Kumar Saha and Pradesh Congress Chief Birajit Sinha. As soon as the Congress leaders reached the venue, they witnessed massive protests against Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman led by BJP supporters.

Speaking on the issue, Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman said as per prescheduled the party organized the joining programme and when they reached at the spot BJP supporters holding flags were gradually gathering and hit the streets to create chaos and disrupt our political programme. He said, “Before the program police have also objected us directing us not to hold any gathering citing Covid 19 protocols. After request, we were given fifteen minutes of time and the whole joining event was completed within 13 minutes”.

Barman said, “I want to ask one question to the BJP supporters. Don’t they have any respect for the democracy of the country?  People who are involved with drug smuggling and all other anti-social works are controlling the saffron party.  Certainly, the political culture of the party has degraded to a certain level.” Speaking on the issue, SDM Bishalgarh Binay Bhusan Das said, “Initially, the prohibitory orders will remain in force for a couple of hours and once the situation stumbles back to normalcy, the orders will be withdrawn”. However, due to prompt police action, no direct scuffle took place between the BJP and Congress workers.
