Agartala, 4th October 2026 : Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee on Sunday said the Bharatiya Janata Party’s month-long ‘Seva Sankalp Abhiyan’ is aimed at translating the spirit of public service into concrete social initiatives rather than limiting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday celebrations to ceremonial events.
Speaking during a tree plantation drive and cleanliness campaign at Ward No. 31 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, under the 9-Banamalipur Mandal, Bhattacharjee said the campaign, being observed from September 17 to October 17, includes a range of activities focused on community welfare.
“After celebrating the birthday of our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi-ji across the country on September 17, our party and government decided to observe a month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan. Under this campaign, we have planned tree plantation, cleanliness drives and outreach programmes with beneficiaries of various government schemes,” he said.
Highlighting the plantation programme, the MP said it was organised in accordance with Prime Minister Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative. A cleanliness drive was also conducted at the local Trinath Temple as part of the campaign.
Bhattacharjee said party workers would subsequently interact with beneficiaries who have received houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) to understand how the scheme has impacted their lives and livelihoods.
“The essence is not merely cutting cakes or holding celebrations for the Prime Minister’s birthday. The most important aspect is service,” he said.
According to Bhattacharjee, the Modi government has undertaken initiatives aimed at improving the lives of poor people, workers, farmers and other sections of society. He said the campaign would help take the achievements of such welfare initiatives to the people.
“The BJP does not seek power merely for the sake of power. We seek social transformation. We have taken the initiative to work more extensively for the betterment of society and bring about this change,” he said.
The MP also praised the participation of BJP workers in the programme, saying there was considerable enthusiasm among the party cadre.
“Our Mandal president, councillor and various party functionaries have gathered here. Through this initiative, we are giving practical shape to the path shown by Modi-ji—the principle that ‘service is our organisation.’”
