Severe mismanagement at TRTC Sparks Public Outrage in Kailashahar

Agartala, 20th November 2025:  Widespread public anger has been brewing in Kailashahar over the severe mismanagement and administrative negligence of the Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC).

The Kailashahar TRTC office building, constructed in 1988, has not undergone a single renovation in the past 37 years. As a result, the structure now stands in a dilapidated condition—walls are crumbling and the premises are overrun with thick weeds, reflecting the authorities’ indifference toward public property.

Meanwhile, bus services on the Kailashahar–Dharmanagar route have been completely suspended for the past twelve days, and the Kailashahar–Kumarghat Station route has seen no service for the past seven days. This shutdown has caused immense suffering for daily commuters. Where the TRTC fare was only Rs30, passengers are now being forced to pay Rs 60–70 for private vehicles.

A visit to the office premises reveals two buses lying idle, while another large bus sits abandoned behind the building, covered in weeds after remaining non-functional for three to four months. The bus on the Kumarghat route has reportedly been grounded due to engine failure and excessive fuel and lubricant consumption, discouraging drivers from operating it. The larger bus is also deteriorating due to prolonged neglect.

The situation has worsened as Office-in-Charge Krishnacharan Debbarma, after returning from long leave, is again away for medical treatment—leaving the office without proper supervision. Although an engineer has submitted repair-related paperwork in Agartala, there is no clear timeline for when the buses will be fixed. Passengers are available, the demand is high—yet services remain nonexistent.

Locals are demanding immediate restoration of services on all affected routes and urgent steps to bring discipline and accountability back into TRTC’s functioning.
