Agartala, 25th March 2026:   Intense nor’wester storms in mid-March disrupted life across Tripura, damaging power infrastructure and leaving many areas without electricity. Uprooted trees and fallen poles snapped lines, while transformers were rendered non-functional, particularly in Dhalai, Unakoti, Khowai, Sepahijala, South, North, and Gomati districts.

Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited (TSECL) reported losses exceeding Rs 2 crore, with over 90 km of transmission lines, 400+ poles, and 37 transformers damaged. Despite the destruction, TSECL crews worked round the clock, restoring electricity in most areas within 1–3 days.

Managing Director Biswajit Basu urged residents to stay cautious around damaged poles and wires and report hazards promptly, while rebuilding efforts continue.
