Agartala, 19th May 2024: Concerned parents and education enthusiasts in the state are raising alarms over the disappointing results of the 125 Vidyajyoti schools. In a show of dissent, student bodies affiliated with opposition political parties have placed the blame squarely on the state government.

On Sunday afternoon, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Tribal Students’ Union (TSU) jointly organized a protest march in Agartala city.

The protest procession commenced from Chhatra Yuba Bhavan, winding its way through various streets of the city. SFI State Secretary Sandeepan Deb, addressing the protest, criticized the government for what he described as the “misery” inflicted on Vidyajyoti School students. He directly held the BJP-led state government accountable for the subpar results.

According to Deb, when SFI and TSU representatives initially approached the state education director to discuss the dismal results, they were not granted a meeting. Instead, other officials from the department met with them. The protesting bodies demanded an explanation for the disappointing performance of Vidyajyoti schools, but the department has yet to provide any clarification.

The protesters attributed the Vidyajyoti project to the state’s Education minister, Ratan Lal Nath, accusing him of deflecting blame and mistreating journalists in an attempt to cover up the project’s failure. They contended that Minister Nath’s initiative, intended to reform the state’s education system, has not delivered the promised improvements.

He warned that if the government fails to address these issues promptly, more protests will follow. These demonstrations are planned to spread across various districts and subdivisions of the state in the coming days.
