Agartala, 10th October 2025 : The Students’ Federation of India (SFI) and the Tripura Students’ Union (TSU) staged a protest in front of the Education Directorate today, opposing the recent hike in examination fees for both Madhyamik (secondary) and Higher Secondary examinations conducted by the Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE).
Members of the student and youth wings of the Left Front sat in a dharna outside the Education Bhavan, demanding the immediate withdrawal of the new fee structure.
Student leaders alleged that while the state government spends lakhs of rupees on publicity campaigns, it claims to have no funds for the education sector. The TBSE, on the other hand, has stated that the fee increase was necessary to raise the remuneration of teachers engaged in answer script evaluation.
The student organizations strongly condemned this justification and vowed to continue their movement in the coming days.
According to the revised structure, the examination fee for the Madhyamik level has been increased from Rs130 to Rs300, while the vocational fee remains unchanged at Rs75, taking the total from Rs205 to Rs375.
For the Higher Secondary level, the exam fee has been raised from Rs160 to Rs400, with an additional Rs75 to be paid for each practical subject — up from the earlier total of Rs235.
Registration fees for both Madhyamik and Higher Secondary have also been increased — from Rs110 to Rs210.
The protesting students have demanded that the government roll back the fee hike and take steps to make education more affordable for all.
