Agartala, 30th October 2023:  In a deeply disturbing incident of alleged torture under the guise of “purification,” a minor girl in Baradowali area has ignited widespread outrage across the state. The CPIM West District Committee is now demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for this heinous act.

The victim, a Class IX student from Agartala, was subjected to unspeakable torment at the residence of a prominent leader in Sabroom while the abhorrent act was committed. Following the horrifying ordeal, the girl’s family filed a formal complaint against the nationalist leader in Sabroom, setting off a wave of shock and condemnation throughout the region.

The young girl, unable to bear the physical and emotional trauma inflicted upon her, expressed a desire to take her own life. She was subsequently transported to Calcutta for urgent medical treatment, her condition reported as seriously injured and gravely ill. Regrettably, her life could not be saved.

The CPIM West District Committee has vocally voiced its condemnation of this appalling incident, asserting that the local police played no apparent role in preventing or addressing the shocking episode.

In protest against this perceived negligence, members of the CPIM West District Committee gathered at the Sadar Police Headquarters on Monday, surrounding the premises and staging a demonstration to demand justice for the victim and accountability for those responsible.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the state, prompting citizens to call for swift action against the perpetrators and stricter measures to prevent such atrocities in the future. Investigations into the incident are ongoing, and public sentiment remains charged with anger and grief.
