Agartala, 17th November 2023:   In a celebratory event marking the 10th anniversary of the Agartala-Akhaura Land Port, Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation Dipak Majumder inaugurated a new shuttle service on Friday, providing added convenience for passengers traveling between Bangladesh and India.

The historic land port, the first in the North-Eastern region and India’s second, has played a pivotal role in fostering cross-border connectivity.

Mayor Majumder, present as the chief guest, officially launched the shuttle service from Akhaura Land Port to MBB Airport, providing Bangladeshi passengers with a cost-effective and efficient transportation option. The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of various dignitaries, including MLA Surjit Dutta, Assistant High Commissioner of Bangladesh Assistant High Commission Arif Md, and other distinguished guests.

As part of the commemorative event, BSF jawans organized a blood donation camp, highlighting the community’s commitment to philanthropy and solidarity. Mayor Majumder, along with other guests, visited the camp, emphasizing the importance of giving back to society.

Reflecting on the growth of the land port over the past decade, Mayor Majumder noted a significant increase in passenger traffic. Where once 30 thousand people traversed the border monthly, the number has now surged to approximately 40 thousand, a testament to the enhanced services provided at the port. He emphasized the spiritual connection shared with Bangladesh, citing the growth in import-export trade and improved quality of life for those associated with the port.

Mayor Majumder expressed optimism about future developments, anticipating the implementation of plans to beautify the land port and introduce multi-purpose services, including entertainment facilities and a cafeteria for passengers. He underscored the ongoing commitment to strengthen ties with Bangladesh and facilitate activities that benefit the citizens of both countries.
