Agartala, 7th August 2026: Panic gripped an area along Airport Road in Agartala on Thursday night after six girls fled from Anwesha Child Care Home, triggering a search operation by the authorities.
According to officials, the incident occurred after a programme was held at the child care institution on Thursday evening. Following the event, dinner was delayed, and the girls allegedly took advantage of the situation to leave the premises without the knowledge of the staff.
After leaving the home, the six girls reportedly wandered through nearby areas before entering a residential house. The homeowner, noticing their condition and concerned for their safety, informed the police instead of handing them over directly to the child care home authorities.
Police soon reached the spot and verified the identities of the girls. Staff members from the child care home later arrived with identification documents, after which the children were safely taken back to the institution.
Speaking to the media, Child Care Home In-charge *Jayanti Deb* said it is believed that the girls left the home due to emotional distress, as many of their family members had not visited them for a long time.
She also pointed out that one side of the institution is currently enclosed with a temporary tin fence after a portion of the land was acquired for the construction of the bypass road. The girls are suspected to have escaped through that section.
Deb admitted that the incident was a serious lapse on the part of the institution and assured that additional security measures would be put in place to prevent such incidents in the future. She said the management would remain more vigilant to ensure the safety and well-being of all children residing at the home.No injuries were reported, and all six girls were safely reunited with the child care home authorities.
