Agartala, 14th July 2025: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura Police in Khowai district arrested six individuals and seized cannabis worth around Rs 50 lakh in two separate operations conducted within the past 24 hours.
Speaking on the matter, Teliamura Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Panna Lal Sen said a 24×7 naka checkpoint had been set up at Mungakami under Teliamura sub-division to strengthen surveillance.
“Based on specific intelligence inputs, we intensified our operations. Earlier today, a container truck was intercepted at the checkpoint. Upon thorough inspection in the presence of senior officers, we recovered 29 packets of cannabis weighing approximately 209 kg, valued at around Rs 44 lakh. The driver, identified as Rajkumar Roy, was arrested on the spot,” the SDPO said.
In a separate operation late Saturday night, five individuals — including four women — were apprehended with 32 kg of cannabis from the vicinity of Trishabari railway station under Teliamura police station limits. “This successful raid is part of our ongoing anti-narcotics drive. Acting on a tip-off, a routine vehicle search was conducted near the railway station, during which cannabis valued at around Rs 2 lakh was recovered. Four women and a man were taken into custody, and the vehicle was seized,” Sen added.
All five arrested in the second operation are reportedly residents of Bihar’s Bhagalpur and Purnia districts. They have been identified as Ranjit Kumar Sahani (30), Ruchi Kumari (20), Pinki Devi (25), Lakshmi Devi (24), and Rupa Devi (28).
