Agartala, 7th November 2026 : Highlighting the growing influence of smartphones on children and adolescents, Sebak Sangha of Churaibari has chosen the theme “Adolescence Lost to Mobile Phones” for its 18th Shyama Puja celebrations this year. Through its thematic mandap decoration, the club aims to draw public attention to the adverse effects of excessive smartphone use and the gradual loss of childhood innocence.
The club members said that the growing misuse of smartphones is affecting children, adolescents and young adults, depriving them of valuable years of their lives. The initiative seeks to encourage parents and society to reflect on the issue and promote responsible mobile phone usage.
Alongside the thematic mandap, Sebak Sangha will organise a special procession on Diwali evening featuring a street play highlighting the need for a drug-free society and raising awareness against violence against women. The club has been using its annual Puja celebrations as a platform to communicate socially relevant messages, including campaigns against substance abuse and violence.
Active since 1994, Sebak Sangha has also been promoting local culture by providing opportunities for children and emerging artists to showcase their talents. This year, a two-day cultural programme featuring local and invited performers has been arranged.
Another notable initiative is the publication of a club souvenir, reportedly the first of its kind to be brought out by a Puja committee in Churaibari. Through these initiatives, Sebak Sangha aims to make its 18th Shyama Puja more than a religious celebration by combining cultural activities with messages of social responsibility.
