Agartala, February 10: Panic ensued among passengers traveling on the Agartala to Bangalore Humsafar Express as smoke billowed from underneath one of the compartments upon arrival at Dharmanagar station at 8:14 am on Saturday.
Eyewitnesses reported a sudden eruption of smoke from the B-six compartment shortly after the train’s arrival, sparking concerns among travelers. Railway Protection Force (RPF) sub-inspector Laxman Debbarma and station personnel swiftly responded to the scene to assess the situation and mitigate potential risks.
Efforts to quell the smoke involved the immediate application of gaseous sprays aimed at extinguishing any potential fires originating from beneath the affected compartment. After a thorough inspection and firefighting measures, the smoke dissipated, and passengers were allowed to re-board the train following comprehensive screenings.
Despite the delayed departure from Dharmanagar station, railway authorities assured passengers that the incident posed no significant threat to their safety. However, apprehension lingers among travelers, given the Hum Safar Express’s status as a vital long-distance communication link from Agartala to other major cities.
Expressing concerns about potential mechanical failures leading to fires along the route, passengers remain cautious about their safety during the journey. Railway officials sought to allay fears, emphasizing that the incident was promptly addressed and posed no ongoing risk to passengers.
While the incident caused some disruption to the journey schedule, authorities assert that the situation is under control, urging passengers not to overly worry about their safety aboard the Hum Safar Express.
