Agartala, 22nd August 2025:    The solar energy based technology is a important measure to solve the day to day problems.  Since abundance of sunshine is available round the year in the entire NE Region including Tripura.

In our state, various products especially produced by the farmers and SHG members needs to be dried in order to preserve & process them. But under open air heating has many disadvantages like time consuming, maintaining the hygiene of food products, temperature variation of sunrays, adverse weather conditions etc. and to overcome the difficulties, NBIRT’s installation of Solar Drier will help the women of the SHG groups of Tripura to produce their handmade, farmed food products and beverages in a very short time that too with accuracy. Food items like Chilies, Turmeric, Gingers, Maringa Leaves, Chips etc. can be preserved properly by drying them.

Keeping this goal in mind, a successful installation of a solar drier of premium quality had been initiated by Eminent Scientist & President of NBIRT Dr. S.P. Gon Choudhuri with the financial support of SEED Division, Department of Science & Technology, Govt. of India under SUNIL project.

The said dryer has handed over to a local SHG group namely “Maa Durga Mahila Mashla NFC” group of  Purba Gandhigram under Bamutia RD Block will operate and maintain the Solar Drier.
