Agartala, 10th February 2025 : The villagers of Bholamura took to the streets today blocking the Sonamura-Melaghar road. The protest was aimed at pressuring authorities to expedite the road renovation work, which the villagers claim has been progressing at an unacceptably slow pace, causing severe inconvenience to the local population.
The residents have voiced their frustration over the prolonged duration of the roadworks, alleging that the project has been languishing for an extended period without substantial progress. “The pace of the renovation is incredibly slow, and we are facing immense difficulties because of it,” said a local resident.
Adding to their woes, the villagers highlighted the problem of dust accumulation on the road due to the ongoing work. Despite the constant movement of vehicles, the authorities have reportedly failed to provide regular water to suppress the dust, further aggravating the situation.
As a result of the protest, traffic came to a complete standstill on the Sonamura-Melaghar road, causing significant disruption. Commuters were left stranded, with many expressing their frustration over the delay in reaching their destinations.
Upon receiving news of the blockade, high-ranking officials from the local administration promptly arrived at the scene to address the concerns of the protesters. In discussions with the villagers, the officials assured that the road renovation work would be accelerated and the issues causing inconvenience would be resolved at the earliest.
Satisfied with the assurance, the villagers agreed to lift the blockade, allowing traffic to resume. This incident underscores the urgent need for timely and efficient execution of public infrastructure projects to prevent such disruptions and ensure the well-being of the local communities.
