Agartala, 11th December 2023:  Former Indian Captain Sourav Ganguly announced on Monday that, in addition to promoting Tripura Tourism, he will also contribute to the development of cricket in the state.

Ganguly, the former president of BCCI, shared this commitment during a press conference in Agartala after formalizing his role as the brand ambassador for Tripura Tourism on Monday.

Expressing his satisfaction at being nominated as the brand ambassador, Ganguly said, “I first came to Tripura to play in 1988. After 35 years, becoming the brand ambassador of tourism for this state is a significant opportunity. I thank Chief Minister Professor (Dr.) Manik Saha and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury for entrusting me with this responsibility. I will do my best to promote the tourism of this state before the country and the world.”

Describing Agartala as a beautiful city during the press conference, he remarked on the stunning palace and the captivating beauty and traditions of the region. Ganguly emphasized that the North East region is a source of pride for India, harboring immense talent.

“I am ready to contribute to the development of cricket in this state in addition to promoting tourism. Cricket is an emotion in India, and the small hill state of Tripura has made great strides in the sport,” he told reporters.

Ganguly expressed hope that large-scale cricket events would be organized in Tripura in the future, urging the state government to expedite the construction of the cricket stadium.

“If there can be an international match in neighboring Guwahati, why not here? I request the state government to complete the under-construction cricket stadium as quickly as possible. I would be happy to utilize my cricket experience to benefit Tripura cricket,” he added.
