Sports, a great tool to fight drug addiction :  Sushanta

Agartala, January 17, 2023: Youth Affairs and Sports minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday said that the government is making efforts to take Tripura to the forefront in the field of sports in the coming days through infrastructural development.

While distributing sports materials among district and sub-district press clubs at Agartala Press Club on Tuesday afternoon, Chowdhury said that sports materials are being distributed to around 1,500 clubs across the state and already over 90 percent of the sports equipment has been handed over to the club authorities.

“These sports goods are being distributed with an aim to further expand the arena of sports as well as strengthen the drive against drug addiction. Sports is a great tool in the fight against addiction. Along with the youths in the society, journalists also have a big role to play in the fight against drug addiction. Society will benefit if journalists play a more positive role in this matter”, he added.

The YAS minister also said that there is no age in sports. “Sports is above all caste, politics, religion, caste. Sports play a major role in physical and mental development. The present government of the state has taken various initiatives for the development of sports. The state government will try to conduct National Games in the state in the coming days. For this, the work of building all the infrastructure is going on”, he also added.

Agartala Press Club Secretary Pranab Sarkar delivered the welcome speech. Agartala Press Club Vice-President Arun Nath, Youth Affairs and Sports Department Deputy Director Biplab Datta and Banjit Bagchi were present on the occasion.
