Agartala, July 22, 2023: The ruling BJP party in Kailashahar is set to gain control of another village panchayat. In a press conference held on Saturday afternoon, CPIM party-elected members of Srinathpur Gram Panchayat, Tuakul Ali, and Mujib Ali disclosed that Srinathpur Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Siraj Mia, will be removed from office under Gaurnagar Block of Kailashahar.
During the press conference, Mujib Ali explained that on July 12th, Siraj Mia, an elected panchayat member from the BJP party, secured his position with the support of Abdul Salam, a panchayat member from the Congress party, and Habib Uddin, a panchayat member from the CPIM party, despite violating the party whip. As a consequence, on July 17th, the CPIM party and, on July 21st, the Congress party lodged applications with Gaurnagar Block BDO Rameshwar Chakraborty to remove Habib Uddin and Abdul Salam from their panchayat memberships for defying the party whip. Now, it remains to be seen how events unfold.
Mujib Ali further stated that the panchayat memberships of Abdul Salam from the Congress party and Habib Uddin from the CPIM party will be dismissed soon, and simultaneously, the chief position of the BJP party, held by Siraj Mia, will also be revoked. Additionally, four CPIM party panchayat members plan to submit a vote of no-confidence against Srinathpur Gram Panchayat Pradhan, Siraj Mia, on July 24th.
In a grave accusation, Mujib Ali pointed fingers at Srinathpur Gram Panchayat Secretary, Nanu Mia. According to Mujib Ali, the Panchayat Secretary convened a meeting at the panchayat office on July 26th, in an entirely unjust manner, after formally notifying the BDO of Gaurnagar block about the expulsion of two panchayat members from the Congress and CPIM parties. Mujib Ali stressed that the Panchayat Secretary has no authority to carry out such actions. Furthermore, Srinathpur Gram Panchayat possesses a fund of sixty-four lakhs, and Mujib Ali claimed that Panchayat Secretary Nanu Mia is attempting to seize the entire amount through an unlawful act.
Moreover, Mujib Ali leveled even more serious allegations against the ruling BJP party leaders, asserting that in 2018, around 1.5 crore rupees meant for flood damage relief in Srinathpur village panchayat area was misused by an influential BJP leader from the Unakoti district committee to purchase cars and bikes. However, Mujib Ali clarified that there was no flood or damage in Srinathpur village panchayat area during 2018, despite floods occurring in various other parts of Kailashahar.
The political atmosphere in Kailashahar is intensely charged due to developments in Srinathpur Gram Panchayat. Nevertheless, political analysts opine that the BJP party faces significant challenges in the 53-Kailashahar assembly constituency.
