Agartala, February 1, 2024: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumdar praised the state government for its efforts to make women self-reliant and empowered, while addressing a gathering of women self-help groups and NGOs at the Pratapgarh English Medium School on Thursday. He said that the BJP government has increased the number of supporting parties from 5000 to over 50,000 in the last five years, which shows its commitment to the welfare of women.
The event, titled “Chai Pay Charcha”, was organized by the Shakti Bandhan Mahila Self Help Group and NGO Women Shakti Bandhan, in collaboration with the CPM. It was attended by West Bengal MLA Srirupa Mitra Chowdhury, who was the chief guest, as well as Deputy Mayor Monika Das Dutta, Sadar District BJP President Asim Bhattacharya, and other dignitaries.
Majumdar said that the state government has launched various schemes and programs to provide financial assistance, skill development, and employment opportunities to women, especially those belonging to the marginalized sections of the society. He said that the state government has also taken steps to ensure the safety and security of women, and to prevent violence and harassment against them.
He urged the women self-help groups and NGOs to work in coordination with the state government and the municipal corporation, and to spread awareness about the benefits of the schemes and programs among the women. He also encouraged the women to participate actively in the democratic process, and to raise their voice against any injustice or discrimination. He said that the women are the backbone of the society, and that their empowerment is essential for the development of the state and the nation.
