Agartala, 22nd October 2025: Tripura is giving top priority to the swift and high-quality implementation of the PM-SURYA Free Solar Scheme, said Abhishek Singh, Power Secretary of the state.
A key review meeting was held on Wednesday at the Corporate Office of Tripura State Electricity Corporation (TSECL), chaired by Secretary Singh, with all agencies and vendors involved in the project. The primary aim is to ensure timely installation of solar panels in every household while maintaining high standards of quality.
Secretary Singh emphasized that the state will adopt a zero-tolerance approach in executing this flagship initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He warned that any agency or vendor found negligent would face strict action and reminded stakeholders that agencies will remain responsible for the five-year warranty period of the installations.
During the meeting, agency representatives highlighted practical challenges, particularly delays in bank loans, as many banks are not providing timely funding. Secretary Singh assured that he would personally engage with senior bank officials if needed and promised government support to address transport and material supply issues between companies and vendors.
TSECL Managing Director Biswajit Basu stated that the project is under his direct supervision, and no negligence will be tolerated. He assured that officials at all levels of the electricity department would fully cooperate, aiming to reduce electricity bills for every consumer in the state.
Deputy General Manager (Corporate) Shishir Debbarma provided an update on the scheme’s progress: 16,855 consumers have registered, 7,365 have submitted the required documents, and 1,112 households have already received installed solar panels.
Secretary Singh also emphasized the need to extend benefits to rural areas. Agencies working in villages will receive monthly incentives, and a dedicated helpline will be set up for vendors to ensure smooth implementation.
