Agartala: March 30. Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder today said that a letter has been written the Bangladesh government requesting them to clean the Akhaura and Kalapania canals in their side to make the Agartala city flood free.
While speaking with reporters, Mayor Majumder said, “Monsoon is coming and we have taken a series of steps to make the Agartala city flood free. Since 2018 we have taken multiple steps. We have noticed that in some places still water logged during monsoon period. We have also observed that the water of Agartala city passes through Akhaura and Kalapania canal and due to blockage of Akhaura canal the water logged in the city and couldn’t pass the canal but now we have cleaned the canal using modern technology”.
He also said that they have also started cleaning Kalapania canal.
“Some people have also been encroached the Kalapania canal and we are discussing the matter with other government official. With all planning we are working to make the city water logging free city”, he said.
Majumder pointed out that another major problem is due to non-cleaning of canal in Bangladesh side the water couldn’t pass properly.
“But we clean it each and every year. Even the Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha has also directed us to make the city water free. We have also written a letter to the Bangladesh part to clean the canal in their side so that no problem arises in coming days”, the Mayor said.
