State tightens border security; infiltration sees major drop, 366 border brokers held

Agartala, 17th November 2025:  The incidence of illegal infiltration into Tripura from across the International Border (IB) has witnessed a marked reduction since June 2025, according to a statement issued by the Superintendent of Police (Police Control).

Tripura shares an 856-km international boundary with Bangladesh, making it one of the most vulnerable northeastern states to cross-border infiltration. Officials attribute the recent decline to heightened surveillance measures and a series of coordinated operations targeting border brokers and their networks.

Sources revealed that security forces have arrested 366 border brokers and their accomplices over the past three years under various legal provisions. Multiple cases have also been filed against individuals involved in forging documents and facilitating the movement of illegal immigrants.

“The joint efforts of the state police and the Border Security Force (BSF) have significantly disrupted the infiltrators’ network. The BSF continues to maintain enhanced vigilance along the border, while Tripura State Rifles (TSR) personnel have been sensitized to improve coordination,” police officials stated.

To strengthen monitoring beyond border regions, plainclothes security personnel have been stationed at Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport, key railway stations, and major bus terminals across the state.

The Special Branch has been directed to share infiltration-related intelligence promptly, enabling swift action. Acting on such inputs, authorities have recently arrested several Bangladeshi and Rohingya nationals, along with Indian brokers allegedly assisting them.

Officials underline that sustained cooperation between the state police, BSF, and intelligence agencies will remain essential in maintaining the progress achieved in curbing illegal infiltration.
