State to create 100 hectares of new water bodies to boost fish production: Sudhangshu

Agartala: June 14. Tripura Fisheries minister Sudhangshu Das today said that the his department would create 100 hectares of new water bodies in a move to increase the fish production in the state.

He said that in order to meet the demand of fish in the state, the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Samada Yojana has emphasized on increasing fish production, use of modern technology and infrastructural development.

“In order to increase the production of fish, this project has also taken initiative to create 100 hectares of new water bodies in the financial year 2023-24. All the abandoned water bodies in the state will be identified and made suitable for fish farming. The department has already started the work of demarcation of abandoned water bodies”, said the minister.

The Fisheries Minister said that for the development of the fisheries sector in the state, the central government has sanctioned Rs 24.11 crore as central assistance in the financial year 2022-23 under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Samada Yojana.

“So far 5 crore 77 lakh 49 thousand rupees have been given to the state government. The Pradhan Mantri Matsya Samada Yojana, 13 new IMC hatcheries will be set up in the financial year 2023-24, 10 colored fish rearing centers will be set up, 55 bicycles with heat-insulating boxes, 100 motorcycles and 50 three-wheelers will be provided for selling fish”, he added.
