Agartala, July 03 – Chief Minister, Prof. Dr. Manik Saha, announced on Monday that the state would showcase its exquisite organic Queen Pineapple and a variety of other fruits in Varanasi on July 21st. The announcement took place during the inaugural program of the National Conference cum Buyer & Seller Meet, organized by the Agriculture Department at Pragna Bhavan in Agartala.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha emphasized the significance of agriculture in Tripura’s economy, which not only sustains the state but also contributes substantially to the country’s economy. With abundant natural resources like rubber, tea, Agar, bamboo, and gas, Tripura possesses the potential for industrial development, he stated.
Regarding rubber production, Chief Minister Dr. Saha highlighted Tripura’s position as the second-largest producer of rubber in the country, following Kerala. The state produces approximately 94,000 metric tons of rubber across 70,000 hectares of land. The rubber industry has played a vital role in Tripura’s economic growth. To ensure the quality of rubber, smoke houses and graded rubber sheet manufacturing facilities are being constructed. Additionally, the state is actively pursuing partnerships with tire companies to promote the use of locally sourced rubber in tire production.
Chief Minister Dr. Saha further emphasized that Tripura is renowned as the “queen of pineapples” and that the fruit has been officially declared as the state food by a former President of India. The state’s Queen Pineapples are not only popular within the country but also in foreign markets. Recently, a successful pineapple exhibition was held in Delhi, and efforts to export pineapples to other countries are underway. To maintain quality standards, an “Integrated Pack House” has been established for packaging and quality maintenance. Tripura’s food products have been showcased in various locations, and the upcoming exhibition in Varanasi on July 21st aims to further promote and exhibit the state’s agricultural products.
