Agartala, 18th November 2024: The State-Level Khelo Tripura Para Games is set to begin in the second week of December at Swami Vivekananda Maidan, with participation from approximately 40 Divyangjan athletes.
A preparatory meeting chaired by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy was held on Monday to finalize arrangements. Key attendees included PK Chakraborty, Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports; Sukanta Ghosh, Secretary of Tripura Sports Council; representatives from Divyangjan organizations, DDRC representatives from all districts, and officials from various departments.
During the meeting, it was decided that district-level Khelo Tripura Para Games would take place across all districts on December 3, coinciding with Divyangjan Day celebrations.
Minister Tinku Roy announced, “The State-Level Khelo Tripura Para Games will feature 14 events, including shot put, 50m run, ring throw, long jump, chess, carrom, kabaddi, blind cricket, musical ball, and chair race.” He also highlighted the inclusion of four new events—Wheelchair, Standing Broad Jump, Buchi, and Straight Run—at the state level.
Forty Divyangjan athletes will be selected from the district-level competitions to compete at the state level. Emphasizing the importance of inclusivity, Minister Roy said, “Divyangjans are an integral part of our society. A society’s development is incomplete without ensuring their progress.” He called on all stakeholders to work together for the successful execution of the event.
To oversee the games, a 29-member steering committee and 14 sub-committees have been constituted. It is noteworthy that the inaugural State-Level Khelo Tripura Para Games was held in 2023 as a collaborative initiative of the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports and the Department of Social Welfare and Social Education.
