State to Support 101 Startups Under new Tripura Startup Policy-2024: Pranajit

Agartala, 22nd January 2025:  The state government has sanctioned a ₹50 crore budget to support 101 startups under the newly formulated Tripura Startup Policy-2024. The policy is scheduled for a formal launch on January 24 at Pragya Bhavan, Agartala, by Chief Minister Prof. (Dr.) Manik Saha.

The announcement was made by Information and Technology Minister Pranajit Singha Roy during a press conference at the Secretariat on Tuesday.

Reflecting on the state’s startup journey, the Minister highlighted that the Tripura IT/ITES Startup Policy, initially introduced in 2019, was instrumental in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. The policy, valid until March 31, 2024, saw the registration of 26 IT-based startups, which received over ₹1 crore in incentives and created around 130 jobs. As of now, 127 startups from Tripura, including the 26 recognized under the 2019 scheme, are registered with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India.

“The new Tripura Startup Policy-2024 has been designed to provide support to the remaining 101 startups and expand its scope beyond IT/ITES to other sectors. The policy aims to encourage new ventures in diverse areas such as handlooms, handicrafts, horticulture, agro-processing, and health services,” said Minister Singha Roy.

Key Features of the Policy including  ₹20,000 per month for start-ups, addtional 10% support for women-led startups and 20% for startups led by specially-abled entrepreneurs, support for raw materials, equipment purchase, patents, and marketing efforts.

The government aims to nurture talent and innovation across multiple sectors, setting an ambitious target to establish 200 startups annually under the new policy.

Minister Singha Roy further emphasized the administration’s commitment to fostering entrepreneurship and providing young innovators with the resources needed to turn their ideas into successful ventures.

Kiran Gitte, Secretary of the Department of Information and Technology, and Jeya Ragul Geshan B., Director of the IT department, were also present at the press conference.
