Agartala, 5th December 2025: IndiGo on Friday cancelled more than 400 flights across Tripura and multiple airports nationwide, triggering severe chaos and frustration among passengers. Since Friday morning, Agartala’s MBB Airport witnessed overwhelming crowds of stranded travellers waiting for information and assistance.
Several passengers reported that upon reaching the terminal, they were denied entry. Airport personnel allegedly informed them that IndiGo passengers were not allowed inside because their flights had been cancelled. No further clarification was provided to them, leaving many confused and distressed.
Travellers said they received no prior SMS or phone notification about the cancellations. Those carrying luggage were left unsure about what to do next. Many also complained of receiving no support from IndiGo staff at the airport. Some passengers from Tripura who were travelling to other cities for medical treatment said they were shocked to discover their flights cancelled upon arrival at the airport.
Flights to major destinations including Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Bengaluru were among those cancelled, worsening the crisis. Many passengers said IndiGo had informed them only about a “change in timing,” but hours passed—from morning till late evening—without any update or departure.
The situation remained tense throughout the day as stranded travellers waited inside and around the airport premises. No significant arrangements were reportedly made by the state authorities to assist affected passengers.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation have stepped in to assess and manage the growing crisis. Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu has spoken with ministry officials and IndiGo representatives to take stock of the situation and ensure corrective measures.Passengers, however, remain uncertain about when normal flight operations will resume.
