Agartala, 9th December 2025: A helpless family in Ward No. 4 of Dakshin Maheshpur has been left destitute after a straw hut, used for cattle fodder, was destroyed in a mysterious fire late last night.
The temporary hut, built on government land along the riverbank, was the family’s only means of sustaining their livestock-based livelihood. The head of the family told reporters that due to the lack of land, they had no choice but to erect the hut near the river.
Late at night, the family noticed flames engulfing the hut. Despite rushing to control the fire, the structure and all its contents were reduced to ashes within moments.
The cause of the fire remains unknown. However, some locals have alleged that the incident may have been a deliberate act of arson, fueling anger and discontent throughout the community.
Firefighters arrived promptly at the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control, but by then, the hut and all the straw were completely destroyed. Authorities have yet to launch an investigation into the incident. Meanwhile, the family faces severe hardship, having lost their only shelter and source of fodder for their cattle.
