Agartala, 23rd October 2025: Train services across Tripura were thrown out of gear on Thursday as a state-wide bandh, called by the Tripura Civil Society, brought rail operations to a halt. The organization has been demanding the detection and deportation of illegal Bangladeshi immigrants, the introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) system, and the implementation of the Tiprasa Accord, among other issues.
The bandh began early in the morning, with protesters blocking railway tracks at several locations along the Dharmanagar–Agartala section from around 7:25 a.m. As a result, multiple trains were either cancelled, short-terminated, or controlled en route.
According to the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), a total of seven trains were cancelled, while several others were curtailed due to the ongoing blockade.
Among the affected services:
Train No. 55676 (Dharmanagar–Agartala Passenger) was short-terminated at Ambassa and cancelled between Ambassa and Agartala.
Train No. 15664 (Silchar–Agartala Express) was short-terminated at Karimganj, while its counterpart, Train No. 15663 (Agartala–Silchar Express), was short-originated from Karimganj, remaining cancelled between Agartala and Karimganj.
Local DMU services — Train Nos. 75684, 75683, 75679, and 75680 — operating between Agartala, Sabroom, and Karimganj were also cancelled for the day.
Long-distance trains were not spared either. Train No. 07030 (Charlapalli–Agartala Special), which began its journey on October 20, is being controlled at Dharmanagar. Meanwhile, Train No. 13174 (Sabroom–Sealdah Kanchanjungha Express) and Train No. 12520 (Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus SF Express), both scheduled to depart on October 23, have been held at Agartala and Jirania respectively.
Chief Public Relations Officer Kapinjal Kishore Sharma confirmed the widespread disruptions and urged passengers to stay updated through official railway channels before planning their journeys.
Railway authorities said that operations will resume once the tracks are cleared and normalcy is restored, adding that the situation continues to be closely monitored.
