Agartala, 30th April 2024: Seven locations within the West Parliamentary Constituency in Tripura have implemented a robust triple-layer security system to safeguard the strong rooms housing the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). These measures have been put in place ahead of the scheduled counting of the Lok Sabha election votes on June 4th.
Vishal Kumar, the Returning Officer, outlined that the West Parliamentary Constituency comprises 14 Assembly segments in West, 9 in Sepahijala, 4 in Gomati, and 3 in South District.
Counting activities will be carried out at seven designated locations, including Sonamura in Sepahijala District, Bishlagarh sub-division, Jampuijala sub-division, Udaipur sub-division, Shantirbazar, Belonia, and Umakanta Academy. These locations correspond to various Assembly segments within the constituency.
To ensure the security of the strong rooms, a triple-layer protection scheme has been implemented. This includes personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), Tripura State Rifles (TSR), and the Tripura Police. The entire area is under constant CCTV surveillance, supported by backup power systems. Additionally, approximately four gazetted officers oversee the security operations. Political party agents are permitted to scrutinize the EVMs and postal ballots. Monitoring efforts are bolstered by over 70 installed cameras, ensuring a vigilant watch over the proceedings.
In his concluding remarks, Vishal Kumar expressed confidence in the peaceful conduct of the counting process.
