Agartala, 3rd July 2024: Students from Melaghar Girls Class XII School took to the streets blocking the main road to voice their opposition against the transfer of their beloved teacher.
“It is the responsibility of the government to transfer any employee of the government department,” remarked one of the protesting students. “But if their favorite teacher is transferred to another school, then the trouble starts.”
The controversy stemmed from the transfer of Sentu Mondal, a teacher from the School Education department at Melaghar Class XII Girls School, which triggered a spontaneous blockade of the road leading from Melaghar to Sonamura directly in front of the Melaghar police station. “His replacement students are unwilling to accept,” explained one of the protesting students.
The standoff drew the attention of local authorities, prompting the Chief Executive Officer (CU) or Deputy Chief Minister (DCM) of the Melaghar municipality to intervene. “After receiving assurances from the DCM, the students agreed to end their blockade,” reported a local resident.
However, the road closure resulted in significant traffic congestion, with various vehicles stuck for an extended period.
