Students block road demanding Science stream at Kamalpur School

Agartala, 18th July 2025:   Students of Baralutma PM SHRI Higher Secondary School staged a road blockade this morning on the Kamalpur-Ambassa route, demanding the immediate introduction of a science stream in their Bengali-medium school. The demonstration caused heavy traffic congestion, leaving daily commuters stranded for hours.

According to local guardians, repeated appeals over the past two years to the Education Minister, the Director of Education, the Additional Director of Dhalai District, and the School Inspector have yielded no response. Written deputations were submitted, but officials have allegedly failed to take any action.

Currently, only two schools in the region offer science education—and both are English-medium institutions. This has left Bengali-medium students with no access to pursue science studies, despite many being academically capable and eager to do so.

“The students here are brilliant, and several of them wish to pursue science. But without Bengali-medium science options, they are being unjustly deprived,” lamented one concerned parent.

After receiving assurances from the authorities, the students eventually lifted the blockade, allowing traffic to resume on both sides of the road.

Empowering women is a national priority: Rajib

Agartala, July 18: With the Sharad festival fast approaching, Lalbahadur Biyamagar Club—one of Agartala’s prestigious clubs—commenced preparations with the ceremonial Khuti Puja held earlier today. The event also marked the unveiling of this year’s puja theme: “Basati” (Habitat), reflecting a narrative centered on community roots and belonging.

The occasion was graced by Rajya Sabha MP and BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, renowned journalist Pranab Sarkar, and several club members.

Speaking to journalists at the event, MP Bhattacharjee highlighted the significance of women’s empowerment in contemporary society. “Women have always held a revered place in our social structure,” he remarked, emphasizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s nationwide initiatives to elevate and empower women. He pointed to several key schemes aimed at ensuring women’s self-reliance, noting that northeastern states continue to demonstrate encouraging examples of female leadership and progress.

“Tripura’s history saw women being suppressed, but since the BJP came to power, deliberate efforts are being made to foster women’s empowerment across sectors,” Bhattacharjee added.
