Agartala, 14th September 2024: The students of Pramodnagar Higher Secondary School took to the streets on Saturday morning to protest the transfer of their beloved teacher Moushumi Debbarma. The students locked the school gates at 10 AM and blocked Pramodnagar Road, demanding the immediate return of their teacher.
The protest saw students standing resolutely in the rain, undeterred by the weather. “We will not move until Moushumi Madam is brought back,” declared one of the student leaders. The blockade caused significant disruption with school staff including the head teacher Sunil Debbarma left standing outside the locked gates.
Sunil Debbarma expressed his concerns about the students’ health stating, “It has been raining lightly since morning. If the students stay on the road for a long time, they might fall sick. We have reported the matter to the higher authorities, but no action has been taken yet.”
This is not the first time such a protest has taken place. A few months back, students had similarly blocked the road and locked the school in protest against another teacher’s transfer. “It seems to have become a tradition to block the way whenever a teacher is transferred. But it is unclear who is orchestrating these protests,” remarked a local resident.
The ongoing blockade has caused inconvenience to both the local community and the school staff. “From common people to school teachers, everyone is in trouble,” said another teacher, who wished to remain anonymous.
