Students lock Telkajla HS School gate over teacher shortage

Date:

Agartala, 11th August 2026:  Students of Telkajla Higher Secondary School staged a protest on Tuesday over an acute shortage of teachers, locking the institution’s main gate and demanding immediate steps to address the issue.

The protest was reportedly triggered by the transfer of a Bengali teacher from the school. Students demanded that the teacher be reinstated and that adequate teaching staff be appointed for all subjects.

The students alleged that the shortage of teachers has severely disrupted regular classes and is affecting their academic progress, particularly in key subjects. Raising slogans over the issue, they maintained that students should not be made to suffer because of administrative decisions and vacancies.

The locked main gate also created an awkward situation for teachers arriving at the school. With the entrance closed, teachers reportedly had to wait at a nearby shop outside the school premises.

The protesting students said they would continue to press for their demands until concrete action is taken. They appealed to the Education Department and school authorities to urgently ensure adequate teaching staff and restore normal academic activities.

The incident has once again highlighted concerns over teacher shortages in educational institutions, with students bearing the brunt of inadequate staffing. It remains to be seen what action the Education Department will take to resolve the situation at Telkajla Higher Secondary School.
