Agartala, 4th February 2026 : Discontent among students resurfaced on Wednesday as a group of scholarship beneficiaries staged another protest at the OBC Welfare Department, alleging prolonged delays in the release of their scholarship funds.
The protesting students claimed that despite waiting for several months, the promised financial assistance has not been credited. They alleged that frequent visits to the department have yielded no results, with officials repeatedly citing a lack of funds. According to the students, they are forced to return empty-handed almost every month, adding to their frustration.
During the demonstration, students demanded immediate clearance of all pending scholarship dues. However, officials reportedly asked them to come back at the end of the month, a response that further aggravated the situation. The protesters alleged that the department has failed to provide any concrete timeline for disbursement, creating uncertainty that is severely impacting their academic pursuits.
The students highlighted that the absence of scholarship funds has left many unable to pay college and university fees, exposing them to pressure and harassment from educational institutions. Some claimed they are even being barred from appearing in examinations due to unpaid fees, putting their academic future at risk.
Warning of intensified agitation, the students urged the authorities to resolve the issue without further delay. They cautioned that failure to release the pending scholarships immediately would force them to launch a larger movement in the coming days.
