Agartala, 29th February 2024: Scheduled Castes Welfare Minister Sudhangshu Das announced on Thursday that the Scheduled Caste Welfare Department is actively working towards the financial and social development of Scheduled Caste individuals through various plans in the state.
As part of the SC Welfare Department’s initiative, financial assistance was provided to small businesses dealing in pump machines, musical instruments, leather crafts, and cleaning services for beneficiaries belonging to the SC community on Thursday. The event took place at Rabindra Satabarshiki in the capital, where Minister Das inaugurated the program by lighting the lamp.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Das emphasized the department’s commitment to the economic and social upliftment of Scheduled Caste people through multiple plans. He highlighted ongoing efforts by both state and central governments to implement various schemes for the overall development of the state’s residents. Notably, the recent launch of the Chief Minister Jan Arogya Yojana scheme by the state government was mentioned. Minister Das encouraged those without an Ayushman card to enroll in the Chief Minister’s Jan Arogya Yojana scheme, which offers one-time financial assistance to scheduled caste students, with applications accepted until March 6. Additionally, scholarships are available for SC students pursuing higher education, covering 43 different courses.
Minister Das also disclosed plans for private tuition for Scheduled Caste students, organized by unemployed youths from hostels and funded by the Schedule Caste Welfare Department. Furthermore, a decision is pending regarding the appointment of one sports teacher in each hostel.
Apart from Minister Das, the event was attended by Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, and other dignitaries.
