Agartala, August 11, 2022: Once again, the Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman was attacked while returning from Jirania sub-division on Thursday afternoon. Not only this, more 11 Congress workers were also attacked including former Pradesh Youth Congress president Sushanta Choudhury.
Reportedly, Congress MLA along with other senior leaders went to Jirania for attending ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ programme. Citing breach of law and order situation, local police administration of Jirania sub-division did not permit Congress party to stage programme. As the police barred them, the Congress workers blocked the road in front of Jirania School and protested.
Addressing the gathering, Congress MLA Roy Barman said that the police is playing the role of a puppet of the ruling party. We were not given permission of August 09 and 10 last citing BJP’s prescheduled programmes. The police told us that they cannot provide security.”
Reacting to this incident, Police said “There is no permission for the Congress party workers to hold any political event due to the ensuing Independence Day celebration events.” At present, Roy Barman is undergoing treatment at a city-based private hospital here in Agartala.
