Agartala, 30th August 2025: In a significant ruling, the Supreme Court has overturned a 2018 Tripura High Court verdict that had invalidated the recruitment process for 484 posts in the Tripura State Rifles (TSR). The apex court has now directed the state government to complete the recruitment within two months, restoring hope for hundreds of candidates whose appointments were stalled.
The recruitment process, initiated in 2016 under the previous Left Front government, aimed to fill Enrolled Follower positions through both in-state and out-of-state quotas. For the internal quota, 1,696 out of 2,388 candidates cleared all stages of selection, with 350 recommended for appointment. Under the external quota, 372 out of 1,429 candidates qualified, and 134 were shortlisted, while 238 were placed on a waiting list.
Following a change in government, the process was challenged in the Tripura High Court, which ruled in favor of the state and cancelled the appointments. However, the Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices J.K. Maheshwari and Rajesh Bindal, declared the cancellation orders legally invalid and directed the state to proceed with appointments as per TSR rules.
