Sushanta chairs general meeting of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad, focus on collaborative development

Agartala, 12th March 2025:  A robust call for enhanced coordination among public representatives and government departments marked the general meeting of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad held on Wednesday in the conference hall of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office. Presiding over the meeting, Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury emphasized the crucial role of synergy in driving the state’s development.

“For the welfare of the common people, the representatives of the three-tier panchayats and various government departments must work in unison,” the Minister remarked. He added, “Public representatives must maintain good relations with the people. Only through such collaborative efforts can the state progress swiftly.”

The meeting witnessed participation from members of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad, chairpersons of the Panchayat Samiti, Block Development Officers (BDOs), and officials from various government departments.

Highlighting the pivotal role of local governance, Minister Chowdhury underscored that public representatives and government employees form the backbone of the state’s development initiatives. “The active involvement of these stakeholders is essential for advancements in crucial areas such as drinking water, education, housing, roads, electricity, agriculture, and social welfare,” he stated.

Addressing pressing challenges, the Minister announced the formation of a special team to resolve drinking water issues in Mandai, Jirania, Belbari and Old Agartala blocks.

Sabhadipati of Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Biswajit Shil urged the BDOs of all blocks to convene general meetings within the month, ensuring grassroots engagement and accountability.

Dr. Vishal Kumar, Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Parishad and District Magistrate of West Tripura, highlighted significant progress under government schemes. “Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural and Urban) Phase-I and II, 47,000 pucca houses have been constructed so far,” he revealed. Dr. Kumar also called for close cooperation between government departments and panchayat representatives in implementing the ‘Annual Action Plan’ to achieve targets effectively.

Other highlights included:

Irrigation & Renewable Energy: As per the Tripura Renewable Energy Development Agency, initiatives are underway to electrify agricultural lands under the PM Kusum project.

Social Infrastructure: The Social Education Inspector reported that 34 Anganwadi centers in West Tripura district have received approvals for infrastructure development.

Financial Assistance: The District Industrial Center Manager announced plans to provide loans to 309 unemployed youth under the Pradhan Mantri Karmasanganta Yojana, with 143 loans already sanctioned. Similarly, under the self-reliance project, loans for 151 individuals have been approved against a target of 1,014.

Vocational Training: Under the PM Vishwakarma Yojana, 9,234 individuals in West Tripura district have registered across various trades.

Renewable Energy in Homes: The PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana saw registrations of 2,144 beneficiaries in the district, with solar electrification already implemented in 130 houses.

An awareness camp related to the PM Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana is scheduled at Mohanpur School on March 17, with directives for statewide awareness campaigns issued by the Tourism Minister.

The meeting also paid tribute to the late Sabhadipati of the Paschim Tripura Zilla Parishad Balai Goswami by observing a minute’s silence. Discussions were concluded with actionable insights from officials of various departments, including Public Works, Education, and Drinking Water and Sanitation.

Initiating the discussions, Panchayat Officer Abhijit Das ensured the meeting proceeded smoothly, addressing key issues and potential solutions. The meeting stood as a testament to the state’s commitment to cohesive governance and people’s welfare.
