Agartala, 20th April 2026: Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday convened a high-level meeting in his office chamber at the Secretariat to address pressing issues surrounding the ongoing expansion of National Highway 8 from Khayerpur to Champaknagar.
The meeting brought together the Secretary of the Public Works Department, senior officials from the implementing agency NHIDCL, representatives of the PWD, and agencies engaged in the highway project.
“The purpose of this meeting was to discuss various issues associated with the ongoing expansion work of NH-8 and to identify appropriate solutions to overcome the challenges that have arisen during the implementation of this project,” Chowdhury stated.
Officials deliberated on bottlenecks affecting progress and explored strategies to expedite work while ensuring quality and safety standards. The minister emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts between departments and agencies to resolve hurdles and deliver the project within stipulated timelines.
The expansion of NH-8 is considered vital for improving connectivity and boosting economic activity in Tripura, linking key regions and facilitating smoother transport of goods and passengers.
