Agartala, November 19, 2022: The comparative data and points on average general crime between BJP-led government over four years i.e. 2018 to 2021 and CPIM-led Left Front government in 15 years i.e. 2003 to 2017 has been highlighted by the BJP state leaders and ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a press conference today.

Citing general crime, he said that in 2018, after the BJP-led coalition government came into power in the state there has been a fall in the number of general crime just in over four years of our government which is evident from the official data available.

In crime affecting human body, the efficient and effective police action by our government has ensured that violent and unlawful activity is prevented with an iron hand. This has resulted in a very significant decline in the percentage of crime affecting human body which includes various heinous crimes like murder, rape, dowry death etc. In crime against human body there is a significant decrease of over 20%. Murder cases are down by nearly 15%, dowry deaths by over 10%, rape by over 10%, molestation by over 35% and attempt to rape by over 15% in our time (2018-21) in comparison to average annual crime under left front Government (2003-2017), he added.

Chowdhury said “In crime against women, Prime Minister’s call of “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao” has been taken very seriously by our administration and we have constantly strived for the overall development and progress of women. To achieve this we have provided a very safe and friendly environment to all girls and women in the state and this significant reduction in such cases is a proof of our success. Major achievement is seen in giving better protection to women. There is an overall decrease of over 30% in crime against women. This include cases relating to rape, molestation, dowry death, torture, attempt to rape, eveteasing etc. in our time (2018-21) in comparison to average annual crime under left front Government (2003-2017). Significantly eveteasing cases have come down by nearly 60%. Also molestation cases have reduced by over 35%.”

“In improvement in preventive action, the co-ordinated and proactive approach of police has resulted in marked increase in preventive action”, he also added.

In conviction rate, we can proudly state that we have fulfilled our promise of improvement of law and order situation and zero tolerance to anti-social or criminal activities. The sharp increase of over 50% in overall conviction rate which was notoriously low under the previous regime is a sign that police action and investigation is heading in the right direction.

In crime against property, under our regime, we have significantly improved the law and order situation of the State and it is very evident from the steep decrease in the percentage of various crime against property such as robbery, dacoity, burglary etc. In crime against property there is an overall decrease of over 9% in our time (2018-21) in comparison to average annual crime under Left Front Government (2003-2017).

In overall crime, on various major heads including dacoity, robbery, burglary, murder etc have shown significant reduction of over 5% in our time (2018- 21) in just over four years in comparison to average annual crime under left front Government (2003-2017).
