Suspicion Over ATM Fraud Attempt at Agartala

Date:

BY TC News Desk

Agartala, 10th  February 2026 :  Panic spread across the Joynagar Abala Chowmuhani area after cellotape was allegedly found stuck to the cash dispensing slot of an ATM, raising concerns over a possible fraud attempt.

The issue first came to light when several alert customers faced difficulties while trying to withdraw money from the ATM. Sensing something unusual, they immediately protested and warned people in the surrounding area.

According to the customers, the act of placing cellotape over the cash outlet is believed to be a deliberate attempt at cheating. In such cases, although cash is dispensed, it gets stuck at the mouth of the slot, allowing fraudsters to later retrieve the money. Customers expressed apprehension that this method was used with the intention of deceiving unsuspecting users.

Upon receiving information about the incident, bank officials and police rushed to the spot. They inspected the ATM counter, removed the cellotape, and restored normal operations. Police sources confirmed that an investigation into the incident has been initiated.

Both the police and bank authorities have urged customers to remain vigilant while using ATMs. They have advised users to immediately inform the bank or the police if they notice any irregularities. Local residents believe that the incident has once again heightened public concern over rising ATM-related frauds.
