Agartala, September 06, 2022: Creating a social welfare society named ‘Swabhiman’ for the LGBT community, an initiative has been taken to organized its first programme in two parts – ‘Pride Walk’ in the capital city followed by a cultural evening at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan on September 11 next.
Speaking to reporters here at Agartala Press Club on Tuesday evening, president of the ‘Swabhiman’ society Sneha Gupta Roy said “We are organizing ‘Pride’ programme in two parts on September 11 next for the first time in Tripura. A ‘Pride Walk’ will start from Umakanta Academy’s playground to Swami Vivekananda Maidan covering distance of 5 KMs approximately followed by a cultural evening from the late afternoon at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan here”.
She said “We have invited Kolkata-based actress Anjana Basu, Mumbai-based activist and celebrity Puja Sharma, fashion influencer Neel Ranaut, etc. All activists and celebrities engaged with LGBT community were also invited, some will come and some may not. We also invited Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha, Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma, ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury, Education minister Ratanlal Nath, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder and Deputy Mayor Manika Das Datta, DGP Amitabh Ranjan, etc. to attend this event.”
“Today, i.e. September 06 is an independence for the entire LGBT community as on this day, the Supreme Court repealed the section 377 in 2018 for the people of LGBT community. Moreover, we hope that the Trans Welfare board will support us in every way in the coming days.”
Society’s Secretary Sidhartha Gope, Joint Secretary Siddharth Shankar Deb, Treasurer Siddhartha Saha, Joint Treasurer Amit Kumar Choudhury and others were present in the press conference.
