Sweet shop owner found dead at Bishalgarh

Agartala, 5th  February 2026 :  Panic gripped the Karaimura market area this morning after the body of a local sweet shop owner was found hanging inside his shop.

The deceased has been identified as Amresh Debnath, a confectioner by profession. Local sources informed that, nearby traders found the body when they arrived to open their shops in the morning. Bishalgarh police station staff was immediately informed and later recovered the body, sending it for post-mortem examination.

Family members of Debnath alleged that he had been under severe financial stress due to mounting debts. They believe the mental pressure may have driven him to take the extreme step.

Police officials stated that, at first glance, the incident appears to be a case of suicide. However, an unnatural death case has been registered, and a thorough investigation is underway. Authorities said the exact cause of death will be confirmed only after the post-mortem report is received.

The incident has cast a pall of grief over the Karaimura market, with fellow traders and local residents mourning the sudden loss.
